Background of the Study
Transportation infrastructure is a cornerstone of tourism development, enabling seamless movement of tourists and enhancing accessibility to destinations. Kaduna State, with its rich cultural heritage and historical landmarks, has significant tourism potential. However, the role of transportation infrastructure in unlocking this potential remains underexplored.
Globally, efficient transportation systems are linked to increased tourist arrivals and economic benefits for host destinations (Johnson & Ahmed, 2023). In Kaduna, the quality of roads, railways, and public transport systems significantly influences tourists’ experiences. Yet, infrastructural deficits, including poorly maintained roads and limited public transport options, hinder the state’s ability to attract and retain tourists (Usman et al., 2024).
Assessing the state of transportation infrastructure in Kaduna and its impact on tourism is crucial for identifying areas of improvement and driving sustainable tourism growth.
Statement of the Problem
Despite its tourism potential, Kaduna State faces challenges related to inadequate transportation infrastructure. Poor road networks, insufficient public transport systems, and limited accessibility to key tourist sites restrict the movement of both domestic and international tourists. These challenges not only affect tourism growth but also limit the state’s competitiveness as a destination (Adeleke & Yusuf, 2023).
This study evaluates the role of transportation infrastructure in boosting tourism in Kaduna State, with the aim of identifying solutions to improve accessibility and enhance the overall tourist experience.
